One of the most talked about topics in internet marketing is the difficulty in choosing a niche to make a sale. I think I have read over 100 ebooks and online courses trying to get that one internet niche that will make me an online millionaire.

The truth of the matter is that, it is nearly impossible to figure out the best methods to pick your niche. Most of the strategies are either rehashed or simply do not work in the long term.

People try everything from coin tossing to using “sophisticated” software. I on the other hand have boiled it all down to only 6 ways to pick a niche.

My goal is simply to make a sale. I have no interest in being the best or the most talked about. It’s all about the money stupid.

6 ways to pick a niche

  1. Don’t pick a niche that is too narrow in focus.- Forget about the online niche marketing courses that talk about one target keyword. You will end up being a slave to the keyword game.
  2. Choose a niche that talks about interesting everyday things. – It may be great to write about the forex market but you are limiting yourself. Sooner or later you become bored writing articles about boring scientific topics.
  3. Don’t lose focus on too wide a topic. – Think hip hop music vs general music. It would be tougher to have a site about general music than just one type of music genre.
  4. Keep the niche product focused. You want to make a sale not become an online ranter. if your niche does not have a product you can sell, then dump it.
  5. Pick a niche that people have demand for. That is the reason the google trends tool was invented. No one is interested in the new star the hubble telescope found.
  6. Whatever you do, don’t pick a niche you cannot compete in. I don’t think you can be able to compete against CNN. However, if you think you can, then give it a go.

Stick to this plan and you should do extremely well online.
